This synthesizer is only useable as a preset box without a proper software editor! Some of the presets are great, but there is soo much possibility lurking below the surface!
At the time it was released, this was quite a common phenomenon— for software editors to be a primary means of interacting with a digital synthesizer. See the Editors page for a list of known tools to facilitate this.
The misconception that it has a limited, thin sonic palette, or is similar in capability to the Sound Canvas devices is mainly due to a lack of awareness of this fact, or simply a lack of interest in going down the rabbithole. Thugh it certainly has some limitations, the MT-32 is much more flexible and advanced from a synthesis perspective than the romplers which followed.
